About Us

Wearable art is an exciting field that is growing in stature, acknowledged by such institutes as the Smithsonian in Washington and the WOW (World of Wearable Art) in New Zealand. The WOW features really far-out designs that aren’t really “wearable”. You certainly can’t put a seatbelt over them and it may even be difficult to maneuver, let along live or do anything in them.

We think it is time that Canada had its entry into this growing field of wearable art. And – we think that the GTA, with its large population, is a good place to locate. Further, we believe that Oakville is an ideal place for our show.
The venue we have selected is large, easy to get to from pretty well any place in the GTA, accessible, and with lots of free parking; what else could you ask for?

The Wearable Art Show was started to help two groups of people benefit from finding each other: the designers and creators of amazing handmade wearable art and those people who have a passion to purchase and wear it. With this show, we feature artworks that you can live in.

The show will consist of the following components:

1. Unique booths, featuring the work of about 40 creators,
where the items can be examined, tried on and purchased.

2. The display of 6 garments created by students of the Textile Program at Sheridan College in Oakville and students in Fanshaw College’s Fashion Program. The items were designed as the primary part of the final examination for the students.

3. This year we are also very fortunate to be able to feature a
very special display from the Fashion History Museum. The museum, located in Cambridge, collects and displays the wearable art of the past; we promote the wearable art of the present and future.

4. We are also repeating our highly successful Art Fashion Challenge, in which the artists participating in the show create a unique piece on a particular theme. This year, to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday, our theme is “Canada Loves Plaid.” You, the public are invited to be the judge of the people’s choice winner.

5. We will also feature a unique fashion show each day with models from all age groups and body shapes and sizes, so customers can relate to the “model” wearing the art and know how it might look on someone like them.
