Robert haven workingWe are extremely honoured to have Robert Haven visit the wearable art show and talk a little about tambour beading, both days at 11:30. He will bring along examples of his exquisite work to share. Robert is a master of his craft and has shown his work and taught internationally.

Robert Haven is a well known tambour beading instructor in the United States who is certified by Lesage, the famed embroidery atelier in Paris. He has also earned a certificate in Hand Embroidery from the Royal School of Needlework. Robert’s work was showcased at the 2007 Montana World of Wearable Art Awards Show in New Zealand and also in numerous embroidery exhibitions in the US and England.

robert haven 2A retired professor of costume technology at the University of Kentucky, his theatrical career included creating costumes for the University of Michigan, University of Illinois, and also at the Old Globe theater and The Guthrie. His work runs the gamut from 1/12 scale miniature embroideries and needlework through full scale period costumes and upholstered furniture. He regularly Robert Haven's workteaches master classes in tambour beading in his Kentucky studio as well as at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, Ryerson University in Toronto, Lacis in Berkley, CA and internationally in Mexico City. Robert also teaches at the Royal School of Needlework in London, England when requested.

“I think it is important to maintain and promote the hand needle arts and beading techniques for generations to come”, says Robert.
